Job Objective:


Under the direction of Director of Radiology, or Manager of Radiology, the MRI Technologist provides technical skills and MRI safety expertise in the MRI Department.

This person is responsible for the performance of all manner of diagnostic procedures, production of high-quality images and the delivery of quality health care and customer service.

This person functions with mínimal supervision with a wide latitude for independent judgment and initiative.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for maintaining efficient patient flow through the MRI area.
  • Operates all MRI and ancillary equipment for the production of highquality diagnostic imaging.
  • Burn CD's from PACS and archives studies as needed for the patients and physicians.
  • Prepares patients for procedures, including explanation of procedure and other patient education functions.
  • Access pertinent information from patients and/or physicians to assist in proper imaging.
  • Assists in training of personnel within the assigned area of MRI (MRI Safety).
  • Monitors and maintains image quality.
  • Actively assists in quality assurance programs and daily quality control.
  • Prepares and injects contrast material as needed per exam.
  • Assists and/or floats to any other departments as capable and requested.
  • Assembles all pertinent patient information for Radiologist's interpretation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge regarding special needs and behaviors of agespecific groups.
  • Participates in agespecific educational and training programs.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in required agespecific competencies.
  • Screens all patients and personnel entering the MRI area to ensure a safe MRI environment.
  • Demonstrates the ability to adapt standard protocols to patients' needs/diagnosis.
  • Demonstrates ability to complete exams in a timely manner.
  • Willing to work in any area and flexible in meeting the needs of the department.

Non-Essential Duties:


  • Performs various clinical duties as needed.
  • Requests supplies as necessary to keep materials on hand at all times.
  • Assists in the transportation of patients for procedures.
  • Plans and coordinates appointment schedules and special needs exams.
  • Answering and directing phone calls.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of all diagnostic imaging conducted in the MRI setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of MRI safety.

Skills

  • Ability to operate MRI scanner.
  • Ability to load and operate power injectors.
  • Ability to operate/use patient monitors.
  • Ability to operate PACS and RIS.

Abilities

  • Ability to determine object's safety scanned in MRI or to consult proper resources if needed.
  • Ability to evaluate MRI studies for technical excellence and proper sequencing.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff to coordinate patient care.
  • Good understanding of anatomical positioning and physiology.
  • Ability to conform with and support the hospital performance improvement and risk management plans and policies.
