Description

The Institute for Solar Energy Research Hameln (ISFH) is a research institution of the state of Lower Saxony and an affiliated institute of Leibniz University Hannover.

Our main areas of research are photovoltaic and solar thermal energy conversion.

We are currently seeking a doctoral candidate (m/f/d) in the field of photovoltaics (PV704) to join our team at the earliest possible date.

The ideal candidate will have a background in physics, nanotechnology, materials science, or a related field.

In recent years, selective contacts based on doped polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) layers on ultra-thin silicon oxide (SiOx) tunnel layers (known as POLO contacts) have led to a significant increase in the efficiency of silicon solar cells.

In the laboratory, we have already achieved record efficiencies above 26% at ISFH using this technology.

In a European research project in collaboration with renowned institutes and industrial partners, ISFH is now developing an industrially relevant novel silicon solar cell with POLO contacts for future production in Europe.

The new solar cell has metal contacts exclusively on its backside, eliminating any shading losses, and utilizes POLO contacts.

In your doctoral thesis, you will characterize and optimize the charge carrier transport through the POLO layer stack using test structures and solar cells.

The silicon wafers will be provided by industrial partners involved in the project in Europe. You will characterize the wafers in terms of
