Responsibilities:

The UCLA School of Dentistry seeks a Dental Assistant for Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Clinic.

Responsibilities include chair-side assisting dentists (residents and faculty) with restorative dentistry procedures (amalgam/composite/crowns/bridges/Implant Dentistry), periodontal procedures (scale/root planning and surgeries), root canal procedures, biopsies, extractions (wisdom teeth, etc.), and setting up IV sedations for appropriate procedures.

When not assisting, incumbent undertakes sterilization duties including washing dental instruments and equipment. Assist and or serve as backup for front office staff, one week a month front office rotation.

Salary & Compensation:
*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of current dental terminology, materials, equipment, and procedures related to dentistry. (required)
  • Demonstrated skill in scrupulously following sterilization procedures. (required)
  • Working knowledge of fourhanded dentistry. (required)
  • Ability to work with infectious disease patients. (required)
  • Working knowledge of principles of asepsis, sterilization procedures and infection control. (required)
  • Working knowledge of University policies and procedures regarding patient care (required)
  • Demonstrated skill in managing multiple demands and frequent interruptions and maintain a professional demeanor. (required)
  • Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately. (required)
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationship with faculty members, coworkers, students, patients and staff. (required)
  • Demonstrated verbal skills using English grammar to obtain and provide information, explain policies and procedures to new coworkers, and answer the telephone/schedule patients when necessary. (required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:

  • Current California certification as Dental Assistant (required)
  • California State Radiation Safety license (required)
  • CPR certificate (required)

Other Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • TB Test: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory TB test.
  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA.
The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
