Academic Employee (f/m/d) with the opportunity for a PhD in the field of Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Organizational Unit:

Institute for Thermal Energy Technology and Safety (ITES)


Your Tasks:

The Karlsruhe Liquid Metal Laboratory (KALLA) conducts research on thermal energy storage for the energy transition. Specifically, scientifically and technically demanding high-temperature heat storage systems with liquid metals are experimentally investigated.


In detail, your tasks include:

  • Scientific support for the demonstration of a pilot heat storage system
  • Development and adaptation of data acquisition programs and evaluation routines using Matlab and Labview, as well as analysis and publication of experimental results with a scientific focus on heat transfer and fluid dynamics of liquid metals
  • Conducting numerical simulations to derive optimal design and operating parameters
  • National and international monitoring of related work and research activities
  • Publication of research results in relevant scientific journals and presentation at national and international conferences
  • The opportunity for a PhD in addition to the scientific work is given.

Your Qualifications:


You have a completed university degree (Diploma (Uni) / Master) in the field of Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a comparable field with excellent knowledge in the areas of heat transfer and fluid dynamics.

We expect you to have experience with programming languages such as Matlab or Labview, as well as very good German and English skills in spoken and written form.
