Job Summary:
The position of a Ground Laborer is a consolidated job of the following positions: General laborer, ticket taker, flagger, fire watcher.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manually move, carry, drag, remove storm debris
- Use hand tools such as rake, shovels as necessary
- May evolve into more complex tasks such as:
- Examine load delivered to verify quantity and type of material.
- Write tickets showing quantity and type of material, truck number, job location, and time.
- Report on amount of materials transported.
- Signal driver in aligning and spacing loads according to specifications.
- Operate the weight station scales.
- Monitor controlled fires.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Daily attendance.
- Follow all polices and procedures and meet all performance goals.
- Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Legible hand writing skills.
- Able to work on Saturdays.
- Able to work at various locations.
- Valid Driver's license.
Desired Qualifications:
- Previously related experience.
- Construction site experience desirable.
- Detail orientated.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
May vary from site to site and in some cases be greater or lesser than indicated here.Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
