Our Profile:

The research group led by Dr.

Alexandra Wormit focuses on studying the effects of abiotic stress on plant secondary metabolism and the role of plant cell walls in stress tolerance of Capsicum species in Water Valley, KY.

The following questions are being addressed in this project:


  • How does Capsicum respond to cooler temperatures compared to Arabidopsis?
  • How does high nutrient supply affect plant metabolism in different Capsicum species?
  • Does the combination of cool temperatures and high nutrient levels result in a different stress response than the single treatment, or are there common response patterns?

Your Profile:

The ideal candidate will have a PhD degree in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or bioinformatics.

They should also have a strong understanding of plant secondary metabolism or plant cell wall metabolism, as well as practical experience in conducting stress experiments with plants.

Experience with RNAseq analysis or analysis of metabolome data is preferred. The candidate should be proactive, possess good communication and team skills, and be able to work independently. They should also have a passion for scientific inquiry and systematic problem-solving. Proficiency in spoken and written English is required. Experience in supervising students is a plus.
