    Job DescriptionSecurity Supervisor, Full-Time Term position through June 30, 2024

    Reporting to the Assistant Director of Protective Services, this six-month position will end on June 30, 2024, with the possibility of an extension. It carries the full MFA benefits package, including health and dental insurance.

    Security Supervisors play a critical role in the Protective Services operation. As the first level of management, they are the face of the department to visitors, volunteers, and staff. In their role, they oversee teams of security officers who are responsible for monitoring and reporting activities within assigned areas of the Museum.

    Essential Functions

    • Responsible for coordinating and supervising the daily operations of the MFA's security officers; this includes daily report writing, security officer scheduling, security officer performance management and the completion of comprehensive incident reports
    • Know and understand the collective bargaining agreement between the MFA and the MISU; ensure this contract is respected and adhered to at all times
    • Ensure security officers maintain an impeccable appearance and carry required equipment
    • Provide guidance, solutions, and resources for staff in procedural issues
    • Ensure adherence to department procedures, processes, and policies
    • Maintain relationships with people across a variety of areas within the organization
    • Customarily and regularly direct the work of at least six or more other full-time employees or their equivalent
    • Participate in department projects and initiatives and provide knowledge and leadership in cross-functional project teams
    • Act as a resource for staff on procedural questions and concerns; provide solutions and escalate certain issues to the appropriate personnel.
    • Mentor, train, and develop staff
    • Escalate work performance issues to the proper personnel when necessary
    • Receive, address, and record accolades, comments and complaints from visitors
    • Manage guard operation to ensure an adequate level of security at all times
    • Create schedules for security officer coverage of regular and additional work opportunities
    • Manage the adaptive response officer program
    • Maintain the Lost and Found in accordance with prescribed procedures
    • Responsible for opening and closing the Museum
    • Issue and collect equipment such as uniforms, radios and keys
    • Ensure post orders are up to date on each post
    • Ensure security officers understand and comply with post and special orders, department policies and operating procedures
    • Take charge of assigned areas during building evacuations and other emergencies; ensure that security officers are knowledgeable of emergency procedures
    • Present a strong customer service demeanor at all times including smiling and greeting visitors; ensure security officers do the same
    • Perform other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree with three to five years of related experience
    • Demonstrated track record of managing a diverse work force, including hiring, training and motivating staff
    • Must have excellent English written and verbal communications skills
    • Present an impeccable appearance at all times
    • Ability to stand and walk for long periods including using stairs
    • Ability to distinguish standard colors
    • Possess vision correctable to 20/20
    • Ability to hear normal conversation at a distance of 15 feet
    • Ability to write clear concise preliminary investigative reports, interview witnesses, victims, etc.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain First Responder, CPR and other related certifications on a yearly basis
    • Be physically able to administer First Aid and CPR including carrying first aid equipment and assisting with lifting and moving victims if required
    • Possess outstanding customer service skills and the ability to remain calm in the face of diverse and high stress encounters, i.e.: fire, medical emergency, extremely aggravated visitors, and workplace violence situations
    • Possess basic computer skills and be able to learn software applications used by the department
    • Ability to use radios, telephones and other equipment that may be assigned

    Schedule and Salary Range

    Full-Time hourly, 40 hours per week.

    Hourly rate: $24.00

    Friday - Tuesday: 9:00 am - 5:30 pm
