THE POSITION:


Are you interested in wetland dependent species and supporting safe, informative recreation for outdoor enthusiasts? The Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) is looking for a 3 Year Limited Term Environmental Education Specialist to work out of the Southeast Region.

This position will provide outreach and education at Middle Creek Visitors Center, one of our state's six Globally Important Bird Areas.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:


  • In this position, you will be in charge of opening, closing, and general upkeep and maintenance to the visitors center. Duties include implementing education at the visitors center counter and answering various questions from the public including specific questions about biological sightings, habitat work, controlled hunts, and general PGC questions. You will have the opportunity to plan, develop, coordinate, and promote wildlife conservation and environmental education programs and teacher workshops for both public and private schools to help them meet environment, ecology, science, and technology standards mandated by the Department of Education as well as to promote the agency's mission. Help educate the public about the management and protection of wildlife and their habitats with us

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Limited Term Full-Time employment
  • Work hours are 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM, Monday
  • Friday, with a 30minute lunch.
  • There may be times where events that you need to attend will take place outside regular working hours. There may be a uniform required for the position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • A bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, the natural sciences, social sciences, or parks and recreation;
    or:
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Conditions of Employment:


  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings.
  • Willingness to wear a prescribed uniform.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:


  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
  • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
