The Ventana Canyon Golf & Racquet Club is a beautiful and secluded member-owned country club with 36 holes of championship golf and 50 guest suites, rated as one of America's top golf resorts

This Lifeguard is responsible for preventing drowning and other injuries from occurring. Must be able to ensure the safety of members and guests by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.

Need to be able to solve on-the-job issues by utilizing effective critical thinking and decision-making skills and possess the ability to work with diverse populations.


Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Actively always guards and scans the pool area; refrains from socializing while guarding.
  • Dress and appearance are consistent with Ventana Canyon standards while on duty.
  • Checks the first aid supplies and reports needed items to management in a timely fashion.
  • Always organizes and monitors pool games.
  • Always supervises and observes swimmers to ensure their safety.
  • Closely monitors activities related to the pool area identifying any safety issues throughout the shift.
  • Directing swimmers out of the water in dangerous conditions.
  • Closely monitors weather reports to make sure members/guests remain safe.
  • Enforces the rules of conduct.
  • Skims bugs and other debris from surface to prepare pool for daily use.
  • Straightens the pool area throughout the day.
  • Maintains all necessary records determined by the Department Manager.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Rescues swimmers who are in danger of drowning
  • May supervise pool in absence of supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Document any incidents and/ or injuries.

Skills/Abilities:


  • Ability to assess a situation and make an informed decision independently.
  • Ability to work as a team with other lifeguards, facility staff and management.
  • Ability to enforce pool policies while providing a high level of customer service to guests,
colleagues, and members.


Education/Experience:


  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • AED, CPR, and First Aid Certification.
  • Must pass a background check.

Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work under variable temperature conditions (extreme heat or cold, indoors/outdoors).
  • Must be able to hear distress noises and hear and see distress signals in a noisy aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere in the zone of responsibility.
