  • Salary range: $56, $65, The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to selfsufficiency as quickly as possible.
  • HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA's various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.
  • The Bureau of Printing and Distribution Services consists of the Print and Mail Distribution units that provides production and mail processing, high resolution digital printing, copying, collating, binding, packing, and distribution of such materials as letter, forms, brochures, procedures, manuals, newsletters, pamphlets, flyers, directories, and other publications.
  • General Support Services/ Bureau of Printing and Distribution Services, Graphics and Business Graphics, is recruiting for one (1) Assistant Printing Press Operator to function as Business Services Machine Leader, who will:
  • Assist in the operations of various print production equipment such as digital cut sheet printers, large format printers, paper cutters, folders, lamination equipment, booklet makers, inkjet printers, etc. Installs inks, toners, and other supplies required to operate these machines. Ensures all machines are maintained and operational by cleaning machines and calling in contracted maintenance services as required.
  • Supervise staff including time keeping, assigning, and prioritizing work, reviewing work to ensure quality and completeness, training, performing annual reviews and handling disciplinary actions.
  • Perform packing and shipping duties for print materials including quality checks, packing appropriately and securely to lessen chance of damaged product, and that shipping containers are addressed correctly and picked up timely and by appropriate method.
  • Utilize Design and Print Ordering system to monitor work queue and updates job statuses as each step is completed. Updates job comments and notifies customer of any job issues or when the job is completed and ready for pickup.
  • Ensure adequate print and finishing supplies are maintained and inventoried.
Minimum Qualifications1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of satisfactory full-time experience operating a cylinder-type printing press using the offset-press printing process; or

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above.


Preferred Skills- 5 Years experience utilizing various production equipment such as paper cutters, folding machines, color and mono toner and inkjet printers, laminators, strapping machines, bindery equipment, etc.

- Experience with print controllers such as Fiery and DocuSP.

- Ability to lift boxes of copy paper approximately 30 to 50lb.- 55a ProgramThis position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
