Description

The "Translational Medical Oncology" department at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) at the National Center for Tumor Diseases Dresden (NCT/UCC) operates a precision oncology program in collaboration with the NCT in Heidelberg for genomic analysis of cancer patients as a basis for interventional clinical trials (NCT MASTER).

The MASTER program utilizes state-of-the-art molecular characterization methods to create a profile of individual patient tumors.

Targeted treatment options are derived from this profile, discussed in a special tumor board across locations, and implemented in collaboration with treating physicians.

With the implementation of these novel approaches and the increasing availability of targeted therapies and immunotherapeutic concepts, biomarker-based treatment decisions are becoming increasingly important in individual patient care.

Due to the uniqueness of tumor changes and individual biomarker constellations, making well-informed decisions and gathering evidence is a particular challenge.

Therefore, complex approaches in personalized medicine rely on a comprehensive and well-documented patient base.

As part of the Medical Informatics Hub (MiHUBx), we aim to improve the connection between referring physicians and the MASTER program to support and optimize patient documentation.

We also aim to improve the interaction with patients who receive molecular profiling in order to increase the data basis for clinical evidence generation in personalized oncology and ultimately increase the clinical benefit for the patient.
