    DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Manages and compiles patient outcome and Quality Improvement databases.

    Examines the pre-hospital care provided by EMS as documented on the patient incident record. Analysis of the documentation for adherence to medical protocol and the quality of the documentation. Randomly review patient care cases to identify trends. Analyze data for compliance with a standard that has been defined and distributed within HFD/EMS. Maintain database and statistically analyze and report findings to the CQI team. Re-measures selected performance indicators to demonstrate the level of improvement of the intervention. The collection of data provided by the audits is to be entered into the database and statistically analyzed. Audits and collects pertinent data values and reports findings to the QI manager. Implements action plans for EMS training/education processes for EMT/Paramedic Credentialing Programs.

    Conducts reviews of all adult and pediatric medical cardiac arrests and establishes trends of care focusing on areas of improvement.

    Prepares cardiac arrest data for use in statistical review or medical studies the department may be partaking in.


    WORKING CONDITIONS
    The position occasionally requires stooping or bending.

    Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.

    There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution.

    The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns.


    MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
    Requires a Bachelor's degree in Health or a field directly related to the type of work being performed.

    Substitutions:

    Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse (diploma or Associate's degree) in emergency or hospital care or two years of experience as a certified Paramedic (EMT-P) may be substituted for the above degree requirement.

    Pertinent training experience on a professional level may be substituted for the above education requirement on a year-for-year basis. These years of experience are in addition to the years of experience required below.


    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS


    Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse in emergency or hospital care or a Paramedic (EMT-P), with some experience in training, are required.


    LICENSES
    Within the first year of employment must obtain the certification required in the Medical Director's guidelines and protocols.*PREFERENCES


    The following skills are preferred:


    Preference will be given to applicants with excellent working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).

    Also, administrative experience in a large urban EMS system is preferred.


    Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.

    SALARY INFORMATION


    Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

    The salary range for this position is: Salary Range - Pay Grade 24
