Description

Responsibilities:

We are dedicated to shaping the future of automotive mobility by developing highly automated driving systems for both highway and urban areas in Briarcliffe Acres, SC.

Our teams in Germany and California use state-of-the-art technologies to create innovative and top-of-the-line systems that provide our customers with the best experience possible.

To tackle this challenge, we are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated PhD students to conduct research within our Vehicle Intelligence Team in Stuttgart.

Your PhD will focus on developing a new, hybrid behavior and motion planning technique for autonomous vehicles, combining data-driven and model-based planning methods.

The main challenge will be integrating a scalable machine learning approach into a model-based planner that can handle a wide range of complex urban scenarios with the necessary robustness and safety.

You will utilize the latest machine learning techniques to understand the interactions between traffic agents, infrastructure, and the environment, and incorporate this information into the model-based planner.

This also involves creating training strategies and evaluation metrics. Finally, the developed algorithms will be tested in simulation environments, on recorded driving data, and on our test vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the current stateoftheart in behavior and motion planning.
  • Develop behavior and motion planning algorithms using machine learning techniques and traditional planning methods.
  • Define metrics to measure the quality of a trajectory based on expert knowledge and recorded human driving data.
  • Implement a training and evaluation concept.
  • Integrate the developed methods into the AD software.
  • Test the methods in simulation, recorded
