- BPS Right to Read Summer Program (up to 15 teachers)The Summer School Literacy and Professional Learning (SSLP) program is an innovative initiative partially sponsored by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The institute will integrate coursework and practicum experiences designed to support the development of structured literacy practices critical for addressing weaknesses in reading.
Students in need of additional support with literacy in grades K-1 (rising first and second grade) will receive targeted and evidence-based instruction from participating teachers; at the same time, those participating teachers will receive professional learning and coaching in evidence-based early literacy practices.
Please note:
Applicants must be willing to participate in all professional learning experiences embedded in this program and the two follow up graduate course dates in the fall (see below).
[Applicants who completed the graduate course last summer do not have to participate in the two follow up dates but will instead share experiences with follow up implementation.]SSLPL seeks teachers who will provide structured literacy to elementary-aged struggling readers aligned to Tier 1 instruction being delivered in the district.
Responsibilities:
a.
Planning daily structured literacy lesson plans for small groups of students.b.
Collaborate with co-teacher to create a supportive classroom learning community including morning meeting, team building activities and sharing of resources.
c.Incorporate feedback from SSLPL Coaches to refine instruction. d.
Assess student progress and utilize data to refine instruction. e.
Supervise students during daily recess time.f.
Participate in once-weekly professional development planning session.
g.
Engage in regular reflections regarding changes in instructional practice with coaching staff.

FY25 Contractual Rate ($39.70/hour) Full participation in all professional learning opportunities inclusive of graduate course = $1,000 (to be paid by the Hill for Literacy)Funding Source:
