Position Summary:


We are seeking an experienced oncology nurse to

  • Manage a chemotherapy infusion center with ~6 infusion chairs,
  • Oversee (as instructed by a physician) all clinical aspects of a hematology / oncology office

Specialized Skills

  • IV infusions
  • Chemotherapy administration and mixing
  • Experience managing vascular access
  • Experience managing an infusion center

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Performs detailed nursing assessment on all patients being treated (includes vital signs, weights, review of symptoms and physical assessment).
  • Demonstrates competency in the administration of complex treatment regime.
  • Identifies toxicities and patient problems.
  • Initiates appropriate interventions and/or referrals.
  • Counsels and educates patients regarding treatment (side effects, actual administration of medications, symptoms management, toxicities).
  • Administers treatment as per physician's orders. (Treatments require from 1⁄2 hour to 8 hours, depending on treatment plan/protocol).
  • Collaborates with physicians as necessary.
  • Returns phone calls and expedites interventions for patients in caseload.
  • Assists with diagnostic procedures.
  • Assists in collection/preparation of blood/urine specimens for specials procedures.
  • Obtains all laboratory specimens from vascular access devices.
  • Collaborates with pharmacists regarding treatment schedule.
  • Triage patient calls for medical care.
  • Assist with patient follow up calls.
  • Assist with processing, administering, documenting, and communicating prescription refills (per approved written guidelines), test results, etc.
  • Assist with medication administration.
  • Assist with patient examinations (as instructed by provider)
  • Assist with the development of clinical protocols
  • Monitors patient flow and in the case of patient overflow, assists medical assistants in preparation of examination rooms, preparation of patients for exam, and taking of vital signs of patients.
  • Maintain patient flow and availability.
  • Obtain and document all pertinent information in patient's charts.
  • Maintain patient safety and confidentiality.
  • Answer and address patient inquiries, questions and concerns.
  • Reinforce patient education and participate in patient teaching.
  • Stock nursing stations
  • Primary responsibility for initiating and maintaining peripheral lines, administering medications, maintaining and ordering of medications and supplies for infusion services.
  • Assist with surgeries.
  • Actively participate in nursing QI by identifying problems, providing solutions and evaluating outcome.
  • Participate in the planning and development of programs for infusion, wound care, education, etc.
  • Ensure appropriate handling and accurate documentation of all medications ordered by the provider.
  • Universal precautions utilized in all patient care.
  • Provide oversight with the Back Office Supervisor and Office Manager of the Medical Office Staff and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform general office duties such as:
  • Greet visitors, patient and guests.
  • Answer phones.
  • Collect payments and copays.
  • Reconcile end of shift cash/check/credit card payments.
  • Collect fee tickets/reconciles with arrived appointments.
  • Review fee tickets for completeness of documentation/coding.
  • Prepare fee tickets, payments to send to billing service.
  • Assembles new patient charts, packets.
  • Copies charts, forms & documents as needed.
  • Copies chart notes for billing.
  • Cleaning and sterilizing instruments.
  • Maintain a current, accurate surgical, procedure, lab logs and patient tickler files as appropriate.
  • Maintain and monitor all equipment used for patient care and testing. Report any discrepancy to supervisor.
  • Anticipate, assist and perform procedures ordered by phone.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA Policies.
  • Performs other routine procedures as necessary.
  • Train medical assistants to be more efficient.
  • Assist with training and orientation of new personnel.


The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $25 - $27 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, licensure, skills, and experience.


The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
