Under general direction of the Accounting Administrator III, the incumbent is required to have in-depth knowledge of the financial reporting requirements of multiple funding sources and types; the Financial Information System for California (FI$CAL); the preparation of the Annual Year End Budgetary Legal Financial Reports, the Generally Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements; ability to independently analyze existing policies, procedures, and automated accounting and fiscal systems to implement and meet current business needs; provide trainings and assistance to departmental staff on FI$CAL system related transactions.

The incumbent will also perform a variety of complex general ledger special project tasks.

Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge and Experience with the State Accounting process, including FI$Cal system and configurations.

  • Strong time management skills to complete tasks and meet deadlines regularly.
  • Experience training others, serve as a Lead over a program, and/or supervisory duties.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Initiative to research and resolve complex accounting issues.
  • Ability to make recommendations to management using data and datadriven decision making.

  • Experience with preparation of Year End Financial Reports
  • Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Experience
  • General Ledger and Federal Fund experience
  • Strong reconciliation skills and experience analyzing large data sets.
  • Strong Personal Computer (PC) knowledge, including experience with Word, Excel, pivot tables, queries, large data, sets, and accounting databases.
  • Ability to effectively deal with Internal customers, external clients and governmental agencies.
  • Experience working with Control Agencies such as DOF, STO, SCO, DGS
