    Team Summary

The team at Pacific Gas & Electric Company is dedicated to scaling up distributed energy solutions, transforming the electric grid starting from the edges inward.

    Position Summary

    The Expert-level Grid Innovation Engineer will be an electrical engineering thought leader responsible for building the knowledge base and product vision for new utility assets. Collaborating with a team of Grid Innovation Engineers, this role involves developing innovative solutions to enhance safety, reliability, and decarbonization in the industry. It also includes serving as a project engineer, ensuring technical execution aligns with PG&E standards and supporting Operations and Maintenance (O&M) performance analytics.

    This hybrid position offers the flexibility of working primarily from a remote office with occasional in-person collaboration sessions in Oakland and site visits within the PG&E service territory.

    Core Responsibilities:

    Solution development and engineering process development:

    • Capture and implement improvements to specifications, standards, and processes based on project experience
    • Develop informed technical opinions for system design choices and integrate innovative solutions
    • Document and apply knowledge of product configurations for various components

    Project engineer for deployment of Remote Grids:

    • Support feasibility assessments, design reviews, and construction compliance
    • Collaborate with project management for technical specifications and construction activities
    • Assist with technical scope and protection coordination studies

    O&M support and asset management processes

    • Drive stakeholder support for asset management, educate other teams, and act as a technical subject matter expert
    • Collaborate with IT and asset management staff, support root cause analysis, and address contract management

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's in Engineering (Electrical preferred)
    • 7 years of relevant experience

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Understanding of grid design and planning tools
    • Master's in Engineering (Electrical or Civil preferred)
    • Licensed Engineer-in-Training or Professional Engineer in CA
    • Knowledge of laws, codes, and standards
    • Experience with data analytics and power system protection
    • Effective communication skills and problem-solving abilities
