Description

In order to support the High-Lift Component Loads and Dynamics Team in Bremen, Airbus Operations is looking for a Bachelor/Master student (d/f/m) in the field of Aeronautics for a Thesis in Machine Learning for Aerodynamic Data Generation in San Leanna, TX:

  • Location: San Leanna, TX
  • Start:
  • Duration: 6 Months

Introduction:

Neural networks and machine learning (ML) play a crucial role in the field of multidisciplinary analysis and design, particularly in determining optimal design points.

With shorter development cycles and higher demands on products, it is essential to make the development of aerospace vehicles more efficient.

To achieve this, surrogate models are used to reduce computational time and complexity in the design process. These models allow for real-time evaluation of parameter variations, such as wingspan or wing area, with sufficient accuracy.

Proposed Approach:

Currently, new aerodynamic drag polar calculations must be performed every time new design parameters are investigated in the scope of design space exploration and enrichment.

Generative models, such as GANs or diffusion models, can be used to generate data and are often used to generate images.

The proposed thesis topic is to utilize generative models to create realistic drag polars that can be used in subsequent processes without the need for re-computation of a new baseline polar.
