TxDOT's Austin District is looking for a
Roadway Maintenance Tech (General Transportation Tech) I or II based out of our
Travis East Maintenance Office in Austin, Texas.

This position will perform moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as:

maintenance contract and material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations.

Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.


Recruitment Bonus Available


You may qualify for a one-time recruitment bonus up to $5000 if you have a Class "A" CDL License (preferably with no transmission restrictions) at time of hire.

You must maintain 12-months of continuous employment with TxDOT and meet all other conditions. Current and Previous permanent employees (does not include Summer Internships) do not qualify for the Recruitment Bonus


CDL Training Available


If you do not have your CDL, we offer a company sponsored CDL training course with $0 upfront monetary commitment.

Earn your full salary while training with lodging, transportation and per-diem provided, if necessary.

Salary Plan/Grade:


Roadway Maintenance/General Transportation Tech I:
A16 ($37, $58,130.00/yearly)

Roadway Maintenance/General Transportation Tech II:
A17 ($39, $61,399.00/yearly)


Minimum Salary: 37,918.00
Maximum Salary: 61,399.00


Pay Basis:
Yearly
FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Position Description
This position performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as:

Essential Duties:


Roadway Maintenance Tech I or II:

  • Assists in inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Maintains highways and rightsofway; performs highly skilled roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites.
  • Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products.
  • Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
  • Move/picks up litter and roadway deb
