The Role:

Full Time Maintenance Apprentice**
What you'll do:You'll help ensure cleanliness of the properties and grounds, perform custodial work, and assist with apartment turnovers.

You'll work alongside fully qualified maintenance technicians and supervisors to be exposed to the overall maintenance operations of the facility(s) and learn the skills necessary to maintain the facility(s).


  • Sweep, mop, wax, buff and seal all floors and stairways
  • Clean buildings (to include staff offices and common areas).
  • Maintain grounds by cleaning up all debris on sidewalks and removing litter
  • Turnover units and apartments to include cleaning, painting and repairs
  • Complete work orders, minor maintenance repairs, preventive maintenance tasks (filter changes, smoke detector checks, vent cleaning, lighting checks, leak checks, etc.)
  • Assist with inspections, reporting all violations, discrepancies and damage
  • Ensure all buildings and building systems are operating properly, to include emergency doors, signs and lights and secured areas such as mechanical and storage rooms.
  • Ensure compliance with standard safety programs and procedures
  • Report all tenant complaints and/or tenant work requests to the Property Manager

What you'll bring to VSH:


  • High school diploma or educational equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in building and grounds maintenance
  • Valid VA Driver's License, clean driving record and dependable transportation
  • A positive, cando attitude and willingness to learn new skills
