Volunteer Press and Public Relations at CLICCS in Douglas, GA


The position is part of the Excellence Cluster "Climate, Climatic Change, and Society (CliCCS)" (Climate Research) and is valued at half of EGR 13 TV-L.

The start date is March 15, 2024 and the position is limited until August 31, 2025. The application deadline is December 10, 2023. The workload is part-time, with 50% of the regular weekly working hours.


Responsibilities:


As a volunteer, you will be introduced to all aspects of science journalism and learn about the typical processes in a press and public relations department.

You will work with graphic designers, gain insight into printing and production processes, and learn the principles of graphic and image editing.

You will receive practical on-the-job training, attend a block course at the Academy for Journalism, and shadow a newsroom or agency.


Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Informing about research results and facilitating dialogue between science, society, media, and politics
  • Assisting the department with research, concept development, and editing
  • Creating articles, presentations, brochures, and online publications
  • Maintaining websites using the content management system Fiona
  • Enriching the CEN social media channel with your own ideas
  • Handling media inquiries, connecting experts, and maintaining contact with newsrooms
  • Compiling text, photo, and video material, preparing press conferences
