    Description

    JES Tech is looking for a Research Data Archivist to support the Human Research Program's Life Sciences Data Archive (LSDA) project at Johnson Space Center (JSC). The Research Data Archivist (RDA) will be responsible for using his or her understanding of the intent, scope, and outcome of NASA-funded studies into human biology, psychology, and physiology, to curate the resulting data and findings from a variety of studies. Much of the general information on these studies will accessible via a public website ) for both NASA personnel and the research community at large. Resulting human data may be privacy protected and therefore access restricted to approved personnel.

    The RDA will be required to create summaries of these studies for the public LSDA website. This includes assembling and curating the data submitted by the investigator teams, with the relevant metadata generated from each study assigned. The data must be curated in a format that enables reuse in the future. Due to these responsibilities, successful candidates must have an education or experience in the biological or data science disciplines to be able to perform the functions of this position.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Developing research data submission agreements (RDSAs) with principal investigators
    • Populating the LSDA databases with information and metadata captured in the RDSA and curation of the resulting datasets submitted to the archive.
    • Fulfilling data requests from intra-and extramural investigators requesting curated data for secondary use.
    • Responding to data requests will require understanding the intent and scope of requests, working with teammates to shepherd the requests through the approval process and extracting data from the archive to create custom datasets.
    • Participate in developing software requirements and testing of the LSDA applications, which include a publicly accessible website and an internal content management system.
    • Input and update research study data into various databases and perform data updates and audits
    • Extract data using manual and electronic processes for release to approved investigator
    • Assist with ad hoc reporting of data extraction requests
    • Support development of presentations for poster sessions, publications, and NASA reports
    • Respond to customer's data inquiries and concerns, addressing issues promptly
    • Maintain confidentiality of all medical and personal information to which access has been granted
    • Provide weekly status reports of work activities to project lead
    • Participation in software requirements definition and user interface/database testing
    • Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health, and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company's safety policies and rules and must be
      willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
    • Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies, and procedures
    • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
    • Responsible for completing all assigned training
    • Other duties as assigned
    Requirements

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    REQUIRED:
    • A Master of science degree in a life sciences discipline or data science degree with emphasis on life or biological sciences discipline.
    • DESIRED:
    • Experience with life sciences or medical records management or data cataloging
    • Experience using R/RStudio or Python
    • Knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements related to PII and data privacy laws
    SKILLS/TRAINING

    REQUIRED:

    •Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, project leads, customers, and with contract colleagues is essential.

    •Reliable and dependable work habits and the dedication to get the job done.

    •Ability to attain and maintain respect and confidence of the customer and contract personnel.

    •Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams)

    •Proficient in the use of the internet

    •Ability to take direction and work independently, creatively, and efficiently

    •Highly developed organizational skills and attention to detail

    •Skilled at organizing and facilitating problem-solving discussions

    DESIRED:
    • Formal training in data visualization tools and scripting languages
    • Experience working with relational databases or digital repositories
    • Experience developing data model and ontologies
    • Experience creating or using Jupyter Notebooks
