Duties:

As the Deputy Chief of the Department, you will fully assist the Chief in carrying out managerial and supervisory duties including, but not limited to:

  • Develop and implement budget, procurement and human resources strategies and cost saving initiatives
  • Manage the administrative matters of the PSSD including human resources, contracting, procurement, and budget
  • Oversee patient support services including patient registration/admissions, patient appointment scheduling, front desk support for multiple outpatient clinics and departments, patient medical/scientific photography services, and patient travel voucher functions
  • Assess and evaluate unique and complex patient support programs to provide and enhance PSSD services
  • Ensure PSSD programs are consistent with current standards of practice and regulations
  • Oversee quality improvement related activities to promote safe and efficient PSSD services
In addition to serving as Deputy Chief, you will perform or advise on the following duties which require professional clinical knowledge:

  • Coordinate patient support services with other medical staff within NIH and outside entities
  • Manage urgent/emergent ambulance transports
  • Approve patient travel exceptions based on medical needs
  • Provide emergency patient services in the Surge Center and the Nursing Command Center
  • Develop and present training to physicians, nurses and patient care coordinators to educate on services available to research participants

Qualifications:


Minimum Education Requirement

You must have completed a full 4 year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Additional Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-13 level if you meet the following qualification requirements:

You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing direction for a healthcare patient support services program that includes patient registration/admissions, patient appointment scheduling, front desk support for multiple outpatient clinics and clinical departments, patient medical/scientific photography services, patient travel voucher functions, or patient transportation services; providing patient support services to multiple sections/departments in a hospital or outpatient setting; evaluating patient support services in a hospital or outpatient setting; and determining budgetary, human resource, and overall resource support requirements associated with the delivery of health care patient support services.
