- Assigns, schedules, and reviews the work of medical imaging and related staff to maintain patient flow, achieve production goals, and confirm to established protocols and procedures. Manages call-offs and may work as radiology tech when needed.
- Confers with medical / research staff and technologists concerning medical imaging techniques and procedures.
- Oversees staff in operation of imaging equipment such as x-ray machines, sonography equipment, fluoroscope, PedCat and evaluates accuracy and quality of images, and provides technical assistance.
- Demonstrates new techniques, equipment, and procedures to staff.
- Evaluates training program for medical imaging staff and conducts and arranges training as appropriate.
- Designs and supervises training for radiologic students.
- Works closely with outside entities (Rush, Mayo, sports teams) on imaging needs.
- Implements and monitors radiation safety measures to ensure safety of patients and staff and compliance with government regulatory requirements.
- Plans, directs, and monitors quality assurance programs to conform to federal, state, local, and hospital regulations and guidelines.
- Responsible to ensure all techs licensure is current (ARRT, CPR, IEMA, IDNS)
- Responsible for all state annual inspections (IEMA, IDNS, Physicist, Curvebeam)
- Responsible for IAC accreditation Humana Assessment Certifications
- Review Landauer reports, Dose reports. Ensure all values are within acceptable range.
- Coordinates purchase of supplies and equipment.
- Evaluates new medical imaging equipment and recommends purchase of capital equipment.
- Prepares and administers budget for imaging services.
- Prepares or directs preparation of various qualitative and quantitative reports and records.
- Consults on work in progress and completed work to assure accuracy.
- Performs specialized and more difficult procedures.
- Reviews current literature and attends meetings and seminars to keep informed of new developments in the field.
- Offers in-service education to other departments and medical staff in radiation safety and various radiologic and imaging procedures.
- Associates Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited X-Ray Technologist Program.
- Good written, communication and leadership skills.
- Exhibit good attention to detail.
- Demonstration knowledge of federal and state laws.
- Supervisor experience in orthopedics highly preferred.
- Certified Registered Technician of Radiography (RT-R); IEMA Certification; and ARRT Certification.
