Description

Provides technical expertise in implementing and supporting all RIS/PACS functions and for the daily operational integrity of the systems. Liaison between internal groups and the organization and vendors regarding all digital imaging initiatives. Ensures timely and accurate capture of DICOM image data into the PACS system. Ensures access is available to appropriate radiologists, physicians and other users. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of PACS equipment including image workflow, archiving, auto routing, and other related activities. Works with appropriate internal staff to develop backup, downtime and periodic system maintenance procedures and resolve workflow issues. Assists with strategic planning initiatives for digital imaging systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Acts as the key resource for operation, design and improvement of assigned systems including RIS and PACS.
  • Answers system functionality questions, resolves internal issues concerning the system and responds to requests for information from user departments and, hospital administration, radiologists, providers and attending physicians.
  • Trains users in new functions, customization, and upgrades. Provides training materials, checklists and easily accessible reference guides regarding such changes to department management.
  • Helps management identify appropriate learning opportunities for the RIS/PACS administrator, and cooperates with management to acquire and schedule such learning. Provides reports in response to management requests and assists management with the interpretation of information. Manages and reviews system utilization, error and turn around reports.
  • Monitors all system activities to ensure data security, integrity and validity as well as efficient and appropriate system usage. Reports any concerns to management, hospital privacy officer and/or compliance officer, as appropriate.
  • Plays the lead hospital role in the initial planning and implementation of the system and system expansions, replacements and upgrades. Participates in software and hardware upgrades and equipment replacement, projects future system needs and uses, and keeps abreast of changes in computer hardware available on the market which effect assigned computer systems and users. Maintains assigned computer systems, including periodic updates and modifications following established change management procedures. Documents changes in the hospital's change management system. Addresses the evolving system needs in terms of software, hardware, or staff through interaction with management, users, radiologists, providers, other departments and vendors. Identifies areas of improvement for user community. Works with HPH clinics and other departments to maximize PACS utilization.
  • Assesses hardware's ability to meet timely processing of data as the database expands. Monitors disk usage and disk space, request and initiate addition of storage capacity when required. Participates in the development and periodic review of policies and procedures which relate to assigned computer systems. Considers policy and procedures when system changes impact user workflow or data requirements. Monitors, manages and coordinates vendor approved operating system patches and vendor approved antivirus patches and updates.
  • Monitors image quality and performs and documents reading monitor calibrations.
  • Documents problems initial problem, progress, final resolution and cause in designated issue problem tracking systems vendors and hospitals. Involves vendors in problem resolution as appropriate. Participates in department's rotating offhours emergency oncall coverage.
  • Acts as liaison between radiology and other departments related to medical imaging initiatives and procedures and assisting with existing or new medical imaging endeavors.
  • Oversees activities of vendors in all phases of installation and implementation of new systems.

Requirements:


Years of experience:
One or more years of experience.

Educational Requirement:
Bachelor's Degree in IT or Medical field

PACS certification preferred.


You must have medical experience and a prior position working directly with picture archiving and communications systems or information systems in lieu PACS certification.
