The American Film Institute is a nonprofit organization with a mandate to champion the moving image as an art form.

Established in 1967, AFI launched the first comprehensive history of American film and sparked the movement for film preservation in the United States.

In 1969, AFI opened the doors of the AFI Conservatory, a graduate-level program to train narrative filmmakers.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Coordinator, Advancement is responsible for scholarship management and providing support to strengthen the overall fundraising efforts and revenue goals.

This includes coordination of scholarship appeals, general fundraising appeals, capital campaign efforts and donor stewardship.

This position is integral in keeping track of fundraising activity in the Advancement department and providing the support necessary to advance the department's fundraising goals.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Track scholarship funding program for the AFI Conservatory overseeing the solicitation schedule of renewals, prospecting, strategy, cultivation and solicitation to build the program.
  • Work closely with the AFI Conservatory Admissions and Financial Aid teams to ensure award timelines support the recruitment and retention of Fellows and provide exceptional stewardship of scholarship donors.
  • Maintain standardized reports that offer the best possible transparency of available awards and campaign progress.
  • Assist with a portfolio of prospects moving them though the cycle of giving and implement strategic initiatives to raise scholarship funds that create a sustainable base of support for AFI Fellows.
  • Assist with a portfolio of prospects moving them though the cycle of giving and implement strategic initiatives to raise campaign funds that endow various AFI programs and campus upgrades.
  • Prospect research on individual, foundation and corporate donors.
  • Draft proposals and solicitation letters far scholarship, general fundraising and campaign appeals.
  • Coordinate donor stewardship activities to maintain and build relationships with AFI supporters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of AFI goals and mission.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum two (2) years in professional fundraising experience.
  • Experience with donor database management.
  • Proficiency working with the Tessitura database a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly detailoriented and excellent with numbers, with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong time management, organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer aptitude; skill in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Canva.
  • Strong background in Excel a plus.
  • Knowledge of and skill using online and other resources to identify and research individual, foundation and corporate donors.
  • Possess a positive and professional attitude with the ability to work independently while working in a teamoriented environment.
  • Strong diplomacy skills and professionalism are mandatory; this includes the ability to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion.
  • Genuine interest in film and the arts, understands and supports AFI's mission with natural ability to articulate this mission and role to others.
  • An innate ability to inspire those working with him/her toward accomplishing common objectives and goals.
  • Personal integrity and the ability to inspire confidence and trust.
  • Experience or knowledge of film preferred.

Pay:
$72, $75,000.00 per year
