The American Film Institute is a nonprofit organization with a mandate to champion the moving image as an art form.

Established in 1967, AFI launched the first comprehensive history of American film and sparked the movement for film preservation in the United States.

In 1969, AFI opened the doors of the AFI Conservatory, a graduate-level program to train narrative filmmakers.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and catalog films for the AFI Catalog of Feature Films. Write historical essays about film productions using primary sources. Compile and enter production information and film credits into online database. Write or edit existing plot synopses as needed. Assist Manager in supervising interns.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Collect, organize and input scholarly information into online database.
  • Review primary sources from research; write History texts about film production history.
  • Enter and validate the accuracy of onscreen and offscreen credits, copyright information,
source citations and all other data indicated by database fields.

  • Edit and correct existing Catalog records.
  • Master AFI Catalog Style Guides and observe expressed criteria of structure, grammar,
classification and arrangement; Master the digital workflows of the Catalog database

infrastructure.

  • Uphold high standards of Catalog integrity and credibility.
  • View films; write plot Synopses (under 1500 words) as needed.
  • Meet weekly goals and objectives for productivity set by the Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, including intern supervision.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • BA Degree required; MA in Film or Library Science is preferred.
  • Minimum two years catalog or library experience.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Cohesive writing style.
  • Knowledge of film history and production.
  • Mastery of library and online research.
  • Experience in data entry.
  • Superior database management and computer skills; expertise in Excel and Word.
  • Organized recordkeeping and documentation of work.
  • Attention to detail; speed and accuracy in typing.
  • Proven ability to multitask, manage and report productivity; adhere to deadlines.
  • Strong selfmotivation and selfinitiative; ability to take direction as well as work
independently in a remote environment.


Pay:
$ $21.00 per hour
