Lessons From Classic Novels
I like to read after breakfast. Right now I’m reading Seven Classic Novels by Jeules Vernes. It was a birthday gift. I’m about halfway done.
The plots to the stories are pretty much the same
- An average guy knows someone who’s going someplace exotic
- Things start out a “Business As Usual” or normal pace
- Something unexpected happens/things go wrong
- The guys on the adventure have to scramble and back track
- More things happen that are beyond their control
- They have to keep moving or parish
- They get a Lucky Break
Even though the plots are the same, the stories are all different. Even though I’ve figured out the outlines to the other stories I’m still going to read them. I can’t help but like a story about people who keep trying because it’s sink or swim for them. Maybe that’s why his stories are called classics.
So did Jeules Vernes deliberately write a certain way to make his stories more popular? I don’t really know.
Maybe he was trying to show people there are no lucky breaks. You have to keep moving when everything goes wrong and make your own luck!
One thing I do know is I like Classic Novel and I’ll probably read more of them.
