Is anguish the end of the world; it feels like it

Throughout our lives we have moments of anguish that last from a few moments to months. These events can feel like the end of the world. Combining these events with the predictions of the end of the world by others based on the stars and other events can add stress to already frustrating days. So how can we handle it?

We can handle stress more easily by recognizing that the problem we face most likely is not the end of the world. Dooms day preppers plan, not for the end of the world, but for the end of society as we know it. If they were actually planning for the end of the world I expect the planning would be more centered on going out in style since after the end there is no more world. So realizing the nature of the issues we face is part of the way we overcome the anguish.

Most of the moments of anguish we face involve loss: loss of a job, los of a loved one, loss of a marriage. These losses can truly feel like the end of the world. The truth is the world did not end just our place in it for a moment. We no longer feel connected; we no longer belong where we once did. Getting over loss, moving past anguish is about reconnecting with something that matters; something that brings hope.

Councilors can be an excellent resource to guide our thinking, helping us to return to a more accurate perspective of our situation. Friends can help us reconnect to our lives as they are the constant between both ends of the situation. It is the feeling of not belonging that often prevents us from hearing them and the council they offer.

The true answer to where we belong is only found in a Savior. No I am not talking about religion; I am talking about a relationship. A relationship with Jesus is a relationship that was intended, indeed planned from the foundation of the world. It is a relationship that will transcend time and anguish, a relationship that will never leave you, including at the end of the world.

Loss and anguish are real, and so is the love and security of the Lord Jesus.

Blessings
