Entrepreneurs: 5 Tips to Boost Your Energy Throughout the Workday

One of the benefits of being an entrepreneur is not having a boss breathing down your neck or dictating your every moment. Conversely, however, not having a boss can make it difficult sometimes for entrepreneurs to stay focused and get done what they need to do. Keeping your energy levels up throughout the day is critical, so here are five tips for entrepreneurs to boost your energy throughout the day.
- Get a good night’s sleep – every night
A good night’s sleep is the most foundational element in maintaining energy levels throughout the day. That being said, everyone seems to need a different amount of sleep to feel rested and refreshed. Whatever amount you need is what you should make a priority to get.
- Stick to a schedule
Like Pavlov’s dog, people are creatures of habit. You can train yourself to automatically go into “work mode” simply by starting work at the same time every day. You can also train yourself to go into “rest mode” by packing up and shutting things down at the same time every day.
- Skip the afternoon caffeine pick-me-up
A cup or two of coffee in the morning can provide several benefits, but it can become a liability in the afternoon when you already have caffeine buildup in your system. If you are feeling sluggish in the afternoon, try taking a brisk walk, running through a few yoga poses or even doing some deep breathing exercises. Simply oxygenating your brain can give you a better and long-lasting energy boost than caffeine, without the nasty crash at the end.
- Take a nap
As little as 20 minutes of shuteye can help boost your memory, cognitive skills, creativity, and energy levels. Sometimes called a “stage 2 nap,” a short power nap can help reset your system and give you a quick boost of alertness. Longer naps also have several benefits, so getting some shuteye in the afternoon can help you finish your day strong.
- Stay hydrated
Dehydration can cause many of the same symptoms as being drunk. In fact, driving while dehydrated is considered as dangerous and drunk driving. In addition to making you feel woozy and lightheaded, being dehydrated can also make you feel fatigued and drained, so drink up!
