ni-i-i-i-i-i-ce post. I will be moving, in two months, to a community which does not allow pets. I am hoping to get a trained therapy dog though. There are special dispensations for those. Reply

Bill, that's a great idea. I love Savannah and when I had business there years ago, I often brought my family and my dog(s) with. We are dog-people through and through. Both my daughters grew up with a dog sleeping with them as soon as they were old enough to transfer from a bassinet to a crib. And they both literally barked before they spoke -- would toddle over to the front window with the dog(s) to chastise the mail person or whoever else chose to walk along the street in front of our house. Likewise, our dogs were devoted to our children, often scolded us if they felt we were not paying sufficient attention to the baby's' crying. The only really dark times in my life were when I was without a dog. The little guy on the following video was 15 when this was taken. He was at that point incontinent, which is why you see him wearing a pad-lined "belly band". (The device was a lifesaver, eliminating all of the hassle and scolding and frustration we would have faced. He stayed strong and active right to the end, and like a Timex watch kept ticking until one morning he ate, took a walk, played with a toy for a while, then climbed up into my wife's lap and ... simply died. I could not hope for a better end for any dog or person, for that matter. Of course, we miss him terribly but then, we miss all our dogs who have passed.
