Contemplation
What is the basis of you? What is your foundation? From whence does your knowledge flow? Now alas, the majority of us fail to actually ask these and similar questions. The reason I find this a failure is that without knowledge of whence we derive our knowledge we are ignorant of our assumptions and personal bias.
Now, many might at this moment ask if it truly is an issue of any actual import. My answer would be, only if you are drawing any conclusions or attempting to make a point drawn from your thoughts, discussions, or research. Otherwise, ignorance is bliss.
Do you color inside the lines or is the entire paper at your disposal? Both are great answers, but knowing, which is your goal, enables you to know if you are succeeding or falling short of your goal. It is not my judgment that counts it is yours that changes everything. The man that aims at nothing hits it every time, he also has no measure to demonstrate success.
When life is lived based on external stimulus, what truly matters to us is very often ignored. When we live our lives dependent on the approval or appreciation of others, satisfaction and success must remain transitory, perhaps even elusive.
Flames from dry wood burn bright, flames from wet fuel bring forth smoke.

@Zacharias 🐝 Voulgaris while I truly hope you are correct that the next generation is able to overcome this outsanity, I fail to believe it is likely as some of the greatest problems are being forced fed to them. They need much greater wisdom or as Ken mentioned maturity to overcome the opinions of others. Personal thinking and logical thought will become essential. Just my thoughts. Interesting word, I like it!

Thank you @Ken Boddie. Personal bias can be very hard to recognize, very often due to the length of time we have held the belief. And as you know digging in hard soil is hard work and often comes at a cost. How often are we willing to pay that price? The results are valuable but the cost can be high. You are so solid Ken!!

The plague of outsanity (a term introduced by Timothy Leary) that you describe is easily observed nowadays. Perhaps why there is so much of this proverbial smoke you mention at the end. Let's hope it's just a temporary phase we are going through and that once those outsane people pass away, the next generation will be void of this handicap…

This is a fair point you make, Greg, that so few of us recognise we are biased in favour of our experiences in life, both good and bad. Furthermore, we so often fail to examine which knowledge base or sources we rely upon to formulate our opinions. Are we drilling down to find the facts, then making an attempt to interpret them ourselves, or are we merely echoing the opinions of others? Hopefully, with age comes a certain maturity that drives us to become independent of the opnions of others and less seeking of approval from our peers. Peer pressure is a powerful thing, but can be overcome when we are armed with pertinent facts as ammunition against a barrage of gossip.
