Bing remains a small player in the search market
In a blog post, a representative from Microsoft, provides an update on the progress of the new AI-powered Bing search engine and the Edge browser after their release to the public. He shares some key insights and statistics that have influenced their future product development. Here are the main points:
- Bing Usage: Microsoft has reached a milestone of over 100 million daily active users of Bing. While this is a notable achievement, they acknowledge that Bing remains a small player in the search market.
- New Users: Around one-third of the millions of active users of the new Bing preview are new to Bing, indicating an appeal for the reinvented search experience that combines Search, Answers, Chat, and Creation in one.
- Increased Engagement: The number of searches conducted daily is growing, showing increased engagement among users.
- Factors Driving Usage: The usage of Microsoft Edge browser has been steadily growing over the past seven quarters, and the integration of Bing search and creation in the Edge sidebar is expected to further boost its growth. Additionally, the introduction of the Prometheus model has improved Bing search ranking, leading to higher search quality.
- Integrated Search + Chat Experience: Users are adopting new capabilities and features that showcase the value of an integrated Search + Chat experience. Approximately one-third of daily preview users are utilizing the Chat feature, with an average of three chats per session. There have been over 45 million total chats since the preview began, and 15 percent of Chat sessions involve using Bing to generate new content, extending search to creativity.
- Mobile Usage: The new Bing search engine is being used on mobile phones, particularly with the release of the Bing Mobile app. The Answers and Chat features, now including voice input, have made mobile usage more helpful. As a result, there has been a 6X increase in daily active users on mobile compared to pre-launch levels.

I'm surprised that Yahoo! search is so high. I remember it from the old days of the web (when there were two main options for searching, Yahoo! and Lycos). Is this data accurate? Also, I'm surprised that Brave doesn't even make the list. Almost everyone I interact with these days uses it to some capacity. Then again, this may be a biased sample! Cheers
