Old Dog: 1 / New Tricks: 1

Old Dog: 1 / New Tricks: 1

I haven’t posted much lately. I have shared some articles and I have commented on the posts of others, but I haven’t written anything new. For someone who now calls himself a writer, not writing could be seen as a personal fail. Oh well. . . to explain myself. . .

Since late January, I have been dedicating 3-5 hours a day creating a blog site,

 - a place for accumulated wisdom from mistakes I have made and advice passed on to me, under the tag line “A wise man learns from his mistakes; a wiser man learns from others.”

Blogs are in three primary categories:
·      Consulting – about consulting for consultants and those interested in the field.
·      Leading - written for change leaders and those experiencing change inside organizations.
·      Living – accumulated wisdom about working, loving and living, reflections and ruminations.

In the past I hired someone to do the web design heavy lifting. In 2003 Eddy Wang built the first iteration of www.alanculler.com. Eddy built it in Flash, which didn’t survive smartphones. So in 2012 Greg Apicella rewrote Eddy’s design into Concrete5. A little later Greg created  the Results-Alliance site, now retired, like me.

This time, I decided to do this myself. So, more than 175 hours later, I know why I hired someone before. Still, I learned a lot and, even as an old dog, I like learning new tricks.  I wouldn't be so bold as to declare victory on this trick, but I would say that I wrestled WordPress to a solid tie, as indicated by the title.

So some thank yous.

First and foremost, thanks to my son, Zac Culler who drew the illustrations and logo for the site. Zac is an amazing artist and I have no idea where he gets his talent from. One thing I was pleasantly surprised about was his superb client management skills, especially with “the client from hell,” yours truly.

Next thanks to Elegant Themes, Divi Theme support team. The Divi page builder could be called “idiot-proof.” I sorely tested that assertion and these folks saved my bacon on many occasions.

Thanks to my wife Billie who listened to my trials and frustrations with more than her usual patience. Billie edits a lot of my writing, but given all my whining at meals, daily outbursts of profanity, and “taking WordPress to bed with us,”  I did not ask her to do a full edit this site.

This brings me to a request. It was never my intention to follow in tech tradition and publish a “buggy-beta” version, but I have worked on this so long I am cross-eyed.

If you would be so kind, please log on and give me your feedback, either in the comments, or connect with me pages, or message me here on beBee. Any feedback is welcome from tech glitches to line edits. I will be very grateful. And if you’d like to receive posts by email please subscribe. There are only six posts now, but more are on the way.

Thank you in advance for your honest evaluations of this old dog’s new tricks. I hope you enjoy it.

Hey Alan   If you move the title line in your header up the height of one upper case character, it will look better.
