Taking a Stand
Taking a Stand
Today, April 19th, two hundred and forty seven years ago (1775), a group of farmers and tradesman stood on a village green in Lexington, Massachusetts and faced down the British Army. They got creamed and the redcoats marched on to Concord to attempt to confiscate arms stored in the Buchannon farm on the other side of a bridge.
There the British got creamed and retreated back eighteen miles to Boston being fired upon by stroppy colonists who hid behind walls and trees in the most rude and uncivilized manner.
I grew up in Lexington, and today there will be two parades (one is over and one this afternoon.) In Boston, they are running the marathon (maybe that's over already too - man, those Kenyans are fast).
But I thought I'd share the link to this blogpost in honor of the start of the Revolution and the American Republic that followed it - with apologies to my British friends.
