SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • ORGANIZATION-WIDE EXPECTATIONS_
  • Follows established Library and personnel policy, procedures and work standards
  • Attends work regularly, on time, and as scheduled
  • Exhibits welcoming, helpful, positive and friendly behavior to all patrons, staff and guests at all times in all communications formats (verbal and nonverbal)
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Participates in meetings, conferences, continuing education, community engagement, and special projects as required by the Elkhart Public Library or as dictated by professional commitment
  • Addresses, or assists in addressing, issues and concerns related to the safety of Library staff and users as well as the security and maintenance of Library buildings and equipment
  • JOB-SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITY _
  • Handles financial transactions for public printing/copying, computer supplies and patron fees, including cash drawer balance and daily deposits.
  • Assists patrons in the use of digital library resources.
  • Performs Public Computing Center opening and closing tasks as assigned.
  • Installs, configures, maintains and upgrades computer hardware and software as requested or required
  • Provides individual, group, and classroom instruction with hardware and software as requested
  • Troubleshoots, resolves/repairs and follows up with users regarding connectivity and/or computer problems reported by Library patrons and personnel
  • Keeps current on technological advancements and new products of potential importance to the Library and makes recommendations in line with longrange technology plans
  • Coordinates technology requests and sets up meeting rooms, ranging from webinars to large presentations
  • Performs designated administrative and/or clerical duties

WORK CONDITIONS

  • Fulltime (including evenings and weekends); oncall for emergency service
  • Frequent local travel, occasional long distance travel

QUALIFICATIONS

  • EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE_
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant training or professional experience
  • Prior library experience is a plus
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES_
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously in person and on the telephone with people in a business and public service context, and with professional colleagues
  • Proficient in a Windows environment
  • Ability to learn and adapt
  • Aboveaverage mathematical skills
  • Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks and organize daily work flow
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS _
  • Spanish speaking ability preferred (the Library adds a premium to position's hourly rate for demonstrated skills)
  • Aboveaverage written and oral language and communication skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and business correspondence, along with general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and/or governmental regulations
  • Ability to effectively write reports, business correspondence and procedural or technical manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Library personnel and the general public in onetoone and group situations
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS_
  • Ability to speak, hear and see
  • Ability to sit for an extended length of time
  • Ability to occasionally reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crawl
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 80 pounds
