The Bed & Rolling Stock Technician inspects, maintains and repairs beds, stretchers, wheel chairs and various other medical equipment at Saint Luke's University Health Network facilities.

Supports clinical equipment, medical staff, technicians and administrators with technical assistance and advice. Maintains records of services performed on equipment.


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Repairs and performs scheduled preventive maintenance on beds, stretchers, wheel chairs and other assigned equipment in accordance with hospital standards, performing these duties within established time frames.
  • Provides support to various Saint Luke's University Health Network facilities.
  • Performs preventive maintenance, electrical safety and functional testing to departmental and manufacturer protocols and specifications on a routine basis.
  • Maintains accurate records for all work performed. Entry or paperwork should be completed on a timely basis.
  • Repairs defective equipment to meet or exceed manufacturer specifications.
  • Performs evaluation of equipment failures to identify design and/or use problems.
  • Minimizes turnaround time on down equipment.
  • Completes repairs at the minimum possible cost to the institution while maintaining the highest level of patient care and quality.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:


Requires standing for up to eight (8) hours per day and walking for up to four (4) hours per day, sitting for extended periods of up to two hours, lifting loads of up to 60 lbs., pushing loads of up to 300 lbs., bending, crouching, reaching, twisting, climbing (stairs and ladder), and manual dexterity to make equipment repairs.

Seeing as it relates to normal vision, and hearing as it relates to normal hearing.


EDUCATION:


Must have a high school diploma or equivalent certificate (G.E.D.) Electronic Certificate or an Associate degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, military equivalent program or a related field is preferred.


TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Mechanical aptitude is preferred.

Two years experience in servicing electronic beds, stretchers (both manual and motorized), wheelchairs and various other rolling stock items is preferred.

Must be willing to attend manufacturer or other training on an ongoing basis.
