Under the Office of Economic Empowerment, the Economic Empowerment Trust Fund (EETF), a 501(c)(3) organization, has goals to promote the long-term economic security and stability of all Massachusetts residents.

Its mission is to educate and provide the resources and opportunities for people of all-ages to empower themselves, with access to the knowledge and tools to make informed decisions throughout their lives.

In collaboration with other public agencies and community-based organizations, the EETF creates and supports programs, policies, and capacities to achieve these goals.

Priorities include financial education, closing the race and gender wage gap, racial equity, college affordability, and promoting STEM education.


Purpose of the Job:


  • The position reports to the Executive Director, Office of Economic Empowerment (OEE) and works closely with members of the OEE and other Treasury departments to maintain the books and records of the EETF, a nonprofit created by Section 35QQ, Section 10 of Massachusetts General Law.
  • Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, and entering journal transactions.
  • Researches supporting documentation and determining reasons for outstanding account balancing items, actively pursues the timely resolution of reconciling items, and prepares the monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliation reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual report.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Creates and maintains detailed accounting records in QuickBooks.
  • Reconciles QuickBooks entries with transactions recorded in MMARS.
  • Records and investigates differences and tracks them to resolution.
  • Preparation of assigned monthly reconciliation schedules, reports, and narratives. Provides followup and documentation and explanations for variances.
  • Contributes to the administrative duties of the OEE staff. Cross train and Backup monthend duties assigned to the other members of the team.
  • Prepares financial reports and analyses using QuickBooks and other relevant systems.
  • Summarizes financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements.
  • Works with the external tax accountant by preparing schedules and reports and providing additional and followup information for the Form 990 and Massachusetts Form PC filings.
  • Develops and implements accounting procedures and policies. Documents accounting procedures and workflows.
  • Advises the Executive Director on needed actions
Qualifications - External


Knowledge and Skills:


  • Experience using QuickBooks.
  • Ability to perform complex account reconciliations using multiple sources of information.
  • Must have strong analytical and accounting skills.
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to interpret and understand IRS regulations, IRS forms and schedules, as well as the Massachusetts Form PC, as they relate to nonprofit tax filings.
  • Experience with Office 365 products, including Sharepoint, Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external parties to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results.
  • Diligent and selfmotivated with attention to detail.
  • Able to recognize a problem and work towards its resolution.
  • The individual will be expected to work with mínimal upfront guidance and take ownership of their work product.
  • Compensation commensurate with experience

  • None

Education and Experience:


  • At least 2 years of onhands nonprofit accounting experience using QuickBooks
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Working knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws and IRS forms and regulations

Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time, Contract


Pay:
$ $50.00 per hour


Expected hours:
No more than 37.5 per week
