Responsible for coordination and oversight of Medical Staff Services, including physician and allied health credentialing and re-credentialing, meeting management, flow of information from Medical Staff committees through the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff and the Governing Board.

Assists with the Joint Commission survey preparation for the Medical Staff/Leadership function, including Medical Staff education regarding accreditation standards. Works closely with Medical Staff leaders and Hospital administration with regard to Medical Staff and bylaws issues.


Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Maintains open communication with the Medical Staff, Administration, Hospital departments, practitioner's office staff, and related health agencies. Identifies and works to solve problems as they arise.
  • Meets regularly with staff, peers, and physicians to plan, problem solve, and to develop a multidisciplinary team approach to operations of the department.
  • Participates in Hospital and Medical Staff Committees and programs for the purpose of coordination and integration of systems of care. Scribe for Executive Committee of Medical Staff. Support staff and scribe for Credentials Committee and Bylaws Committee
  • Creates and manages operating budget for Medical Staff Administration. Monitors and reports operational financial management by monthly analysis of actual versus budgeted operating margins in assigned area.
  • Creates a management atmosphere which promotes open communication, collaboration and professionalism.
  • Assists the Credentials Committee with development of privilege criteria, privilege delineations, OPPE, FPPE, and other documents necessary to maintain an effective credentialing process.
  • Maintains and assures the overall confidentiality of Medical Staff files.
  • Maintains systems to identify, and disseminate to others, Medical Staff members and their clinical privileges, prepares and maintains other related records and reports.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the standards of the Joint Commission.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the Medical Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations, and Hospital policies, and works to ensure the Medical Staff's compliance with the stated parameters. Member of and responsible for facilitating the Bylaws Committee meeting. Recommends policies and procedures, composes agenda for meeting and acts as scribe.
  • Oversees the Medical Staff committees or department meetings as necessary. Assists with agenda and material preparation and provides supportive services for specified meetings.
  • Maintains a current Medical Staff and Committee membership roster.
  • Provides supportive services to Medical Staff leaders in fulfilling the responsibilities of their offices in conjunction with physician support services.
  • Participates with Medical Staff leaders in developing policies for the Medical Staff and in monitoring the continuity of Medical Staff activities.
  • Coordinates the calendar for the President of the Medical Staff.
  • Maintains peer review data for medical staff and adjunct staff members.
  • Ensures that the results of medical staff quality improvement findings are provided to appropriate review committees/departments and maintained in a confidential file.
  • Participates in peer review activities as appropriate to the role.
  • Interviews and recommends the hiring for the department.
  • Identifies learning needs of staff and provides opportunities for development.
  • Partners on the development of an appropriate orientation program for new physicians and and assists in the adjustment process.
  • Assists with Medical Staff Dues account by collecting annual dues and provides periodic reports to the Treasurer of the Medical Staff.
  • Integrates the department employees into a dynamic team, all working together toward meeting the department and hospital objectives, meeting or exceeding all regulatory requirements, and Hospital fiscal goals.
  • Provides for the ongoing evaluation of clinical expertise and utilizes appropriate resources within the institution to provide consultation, education, technical or informational services as needed to self, staff or patients.
  • Works collaboratively with leaders in other departments to integrate medical staff functions
