The Associate Provost provides administrative oversight of Curtis's Provost's Office, ensuring the successful integration and implementation of artistic and academic initiatives.

This position is responsible for managing projects and workflows that support Curtis's mission to educate and train the world's most talented young artists.

The Associate Provost will oversee the daily functions of both the conservatory and Curtis's production team, ensuring the school can successfully educate the leading artists, creators, and innovators in classical music.

  • Essential Functions

Key Responsibilities:


  • Provides administrative oversight of Curtis's academic and performance departments to ensure compliance and the successful delivery of the curriculum; student affairs to carry out programs that enhance student success; operations to support and integrate all classroom and performance instruction; and production to organize and coordinate all local concert activities.
  • Supervises Curtis's Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Senior Associate Dean of Student Life, Senior Director of Scheduling and Logistics Management, Senior Director of Production, Director of Performance Activities, and Director of Academic Operations and Administration to ensure the successful integration of Curtis's total curriculum, both artistic and academic.
  • Oversees longterm student leave of absence requests, and oversees Curtis's release request committee to manage shortterm student absence, revising and supporting related policies.
  • Oversees Curtis's projectbased Master's program, including by connecting students with appropriate project mentors, leading committees that provide feedback on inprogress student work, and assessing Master's projects.
  • In consultation with the Provost, approves faculty and departmental requests and proposals for new course offerings, the addition of sections, changes in teaching assignments, and other curricular changes.
  • Ensures contract compliance for Curtis faculty members, including by reviewing the proposed and actual activities of hourly instructors and recommending any adjustments required to maintain equitable pay.
  • Serves on Curtis's Committee on Academic Standing, Deans and Chairs Committee, and other committees as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Preferred Experience and Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:


  • A graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or commensurate experience; a degree and/or experience in a musicrelated discipline is preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience, preferably in academic leadership and/or the field of music.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, ability to function independently, and ability to produce quality work with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities working with faculty, staff, students, and/or musicians of diverse backgrounds, as well as a deep commitment to issues of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage shifting priorities and multiple demanding projects.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both interpersonal and in writing.
  • Proficiency with scheduling, project management, and database software.

  • Working Conditions and Physical Demands
  • This position is located in Philadelphia, PA, and requires a regular presence on campus. An office on campus will be provided. Hybrid work is possible over the summer.
  • Night and weekend work may be required, especially during concert weeks.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer at the time of hire.
  • COVID19 vaccination is a requirement for all positions at the Curtis Institute of Music and all new hires are expected to be fully vaccinated before beginning work.
  • Exertional requirements are that of a routine office environment.
  • Compensation and Benefits
  • Gross annual salary range for this position is $125,000 $150,000, commensurate with experience.
