Summary/Objectives
Help manage and coordinate the activities and operations of the Quality department and staff. Support the administration of the company's quality food safety systems to ensure compliance and legal standards are met. Responsible for leading and directing quality systems and promotes customer satisfaction, food safety, and SQF culture.

Maintain the standards/compliance set forth by the GFSI auditing scheme, FSMA, Federal and State requirements and assist and support the Quality Manager.


Essential Functions

  • SQF Practitioner-Responsible for SQF programs and implementation
  • Develop and maintain the HACCP Plan(s) (HACCP Coordinator).
  • Ensure that all routine Quality Assurance functions are performed accurately and at the required frequencies
  • Manage and audit all programs within the Quality Management System including but not limited to: CAPA's, Recall Program, Consumer Complaints, Hold and Release Program, Environmental Program, Pest Management.
  • Initiate investigations of all out of specification results and process deviations
  • Schedule and oversee corrective action system. Perform followup and support to appropriate teams to ensure adequate corrective actions are documented, implemented, and measured for effectiveness
  • Develop and implement effective training programs to achieve and maintain quality system and regulation awareness; SQF Compliance
  • Perform regular plant walkthroughs to ensure compliance to SOP's and GMP's and Company expectations
  • Act as plant representative for all 3rd party audits (Customer Audits, Regulatory Inspections, and 3rd Party Certification)
  • Provide leadership and professional development of Quality Assurance staff, promoting open discussion and collaborative teamwork.
  • Ensure accuracy of finished products during the production process (includes but is not limited to ensuring correct labeling of packaging and alignment, lot code accuracy, net weight, etc.).
  • Maintains key prerequisite programs:
  • Internal Audits
  • Consumer Complaints
  • Supplier Documentation
  • Environmental Monitoring/Clean Equipment
  • Ensure all processes and programs are followed and maintained as well as follow up and enforce programs
  • Assist in Pest Control monitoring.
  • Assist with product retrievals and recalls, and handling of confidential information.
  • Assist in writing, communicating, and training of Quality systems programs and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide training to new and current company employees.
  • Serve as a member on the company's Food Safety Team and/or HACCP Team.
  • Assist with the annual validation and review to ensure compliance with the SQF Standard.
  • Participate in third party audits, where required (SQF, Customer, Regulatory).
  • Assist with maintaining the HOLD program and CAPA program.
  • Provide backup, when necessary, for the Quality Manager.

Work Environment
The work performed is often within an office environment. There are job functions that would require going into production as well as the warehouse. Frequent exposure to loud noises and powered equipment would be expected. The office and production/warehouse are climate controlled.


Physical Demands
Frequently required to sit and operate office equipment. Ability to see, speak, and hear. Bend, stoop, twist, turn, push, pull, grasp, grip, infrequent. Typing expected at least 75% of the work week. Lifting up to 50lbs infrequently whereas lifting up to 10lbs may be more frequent.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Travel
Minimal travel is expected for this position. Travel may include warehouse visits as well as drop offs to different lab sites.


Education, Skills, and Experience

  • B.S. required in Biology, Food Science/Nutrition, or related field.
  • SQF Practitioner, required
  • HACCP Certified, required
  • PCQI, required
  • 5 years of recent experience in Food Quality, strongly desired in a lead, supervisory, or management role
