Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct laboratory tests and procedures to identify and measure biomarkers associated with Alzheimer's disease in research, clinical and trial cohorts.
  • Prepare and process biological samples, such as blood, cerebrospinal fluid, and tissue, for analysis.
  • Maintain fully automated instruments e.g., Elecsys and Lumipulse
  • Utilize advanced proteomic techniques including Simoa, mass spectrometry, and NULISA
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures and results.
  • Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, clinicians, and researchers.

This position is responsible for performing routine to complex laboratory diagnostic and research procedures including fully automated and semiautomated immunoassays, mass spectrometry and sequencing techniques.


CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Performs various laboratory tests in accordance with standard practice. Labels and files slides. Biochemical methods that are part of standard practice may include preparation of fresh and frozen single-cell suspensions, processing of cerebrospinal fluid and blood, western blotting, ELISA, RNA and DNA isolation and Bioanalyzer analysis.
  • Documents laboratory test results verbally, in personal laboratory notebook, in dedicated shared laboratory binders as well as on workflow files on the network computer (Excel spreadsheet).
  • Runs and maintains several high-performing immunoassay apparatuses. Gathers high-through blood and CSF data to share with external source. Supports research staff with development (e.g., biotinylation, antibody testing and assay validation).
  • Utilizes labware supplies and preparation including buffers, fixatives and stain components; responsible for cleaning of labware, including manual cleaning and dishwasher and ordering and maintaining lab supplies.
  • Performs related work, which may include trialing new techniques, liaising with collaborators sample aliquoting, data analysis, review and summary of scientific literature and drafting of scientific publications. This may involve working independently or with a team.
  • Customers are primarily internal to the organization. Occasionally does come into contact with outside vendors, couriers and professionals who bring specimens to the laboratory or take specimens/human remains from the laboratory/morgue.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science degree in biology or biosciences.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Coursework in gross human and/or vertebrate anatomy. Relevant experience in hospital pathology setting and/or biomedical research.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
