    Overview:

    Brief Description:
    The Buyer is responsible for placing purchase orders for steel. They coordinate all changes associated with purchase orders including Sales requests, reorders and closing orders. The position is also responsible for various reports related to pricing, supplier evaluations, steel purchases, and scrap sales.

    Responsibilities:

    • Help plan and implement steel sourcing allocation and lead times
    • Source to achieve company, commercial and supplier objectives
    • Prepare and update various reports, including steel price, volume, blended vendor, and monthly supplier evaluations
    • Problemsolve issues with suppliers and participate in supplier conference calls and meetings
    • Internally, participate in customer service meetings and problem solving with all departments
    • Provide backup support to Material Control Planners
    • Manage customer pipeline and stock programs
    • Coordinate transfer of orders from plant to plant

    Qualifications:

    Experience/Requirements:

    Required:
    Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

    Ability to use sound judgment and initiative

    Effective organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

    Self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision and multi-task

    Ability to work with outside suppliers and interface with all departments internally

    Analytical ability


    Preferred:
    College Degree in business or related field

    4-5 years' experience in purchasing, customer service, or related field
