    The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), a comprehensive university whose core strengths are excellence, student success, access, and workforce development, is seeking applications for its next Director of Environmental Health & Safety and Risk Management Support (EHSRMS). UAA's mission is to transforming lives through teaching, research, community engagement and creative expression in a diverse and inclusive environment.

    Through execution of the position's critical functions the EHSRMS Director makes key contributions to the future development of both the behavior-based safety culture and builds strong communication and training programs with department supervisors, principal investigators, and university management. The Director will report directly to the Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services and will be actively supported by the UA System Office of Risk Management regarding program development and related strategic and tactical activities. The Director works closely with senior management at UAA and its five campuses throughout Southcentral Alaska.

    The ideal candidate for this role should possess 8-10 years of progressively responsible management and support of corporate or public-sector safety and risk programs.

    Additional skills and abilities specific to the Administrative Manager include:
    • Takes the initiative to lead with strong people service skills and high-energy level, promotes and problem solving with positive attitude
    • Demonstrates current knowledge of environmental, health, safety, risk management and emergency management federal, state local and university laws and regulations
    • Ability to interpret and appropriately apply regulatory codes and laws in a university setting
    • Demonstrates a strong understanding of behavior-based safety programs
    • Ability to proactively identify staffing and project program resource needs, including outsourcing/contracting.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree in physical science or a related field and 8 to 10 years progressively responsible relevant experience (supervisory, environmental, health, safety, risk management and/or emergency management). Preferred: Master's Degree in science, engineering, public health, waste management, or other related field with six years progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is preferred and will be accepted in lieu of required education and experience.

    A valid Alaska driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria is required.

    Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is strongly preferred.

    Position Details:

    This position is located on the Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska, and flexible on-site/hybrid work arrangements may be considered in accordance with UA regulations. This is a full-time, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 84, based on education and experience.
