As an essential criterion of an American College of Surgeons, (ACS), verified trauma center, the trauma analyst is responsible for the timely abstraction and submission of data on all trauma patients receiving care at the Nemours Children's Hospital, DE as defined by the American College of Surgeons - Committee on Trauma, and the State of Delaware.

The trauma analyst maintains the trauma registry for the trauma center per state and national protocols. The trauma analyst is responsible for the abstraction of all trauma patient medical records.

The trauma analyst will also generate monthly, quarterly and special reports to the trauma program manager/director and the state coordinator as requested.

The trauma analyst assists with the collection and analysis of trauma data for injury research, epidemiology and performance improvement.

The trauma analyst is responsible for submission of yearly data into the DE State Registry, National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB), and the Pediatric Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) operated through the American College of Surgeons.


Position Responsibilities

  • Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by employee's supervisor.
  • Abstracts data from the patient medical record into all required trauma databases.
  • Responsible for accurate data abstraction into the required databases.
  • Correlates the injuries to the AIS code for accurate ISS score for every injury on each patient.
  • Participates in data validation.
  • Responsible for the submissions of monthly, quarterly, annual and special reports to the Trauma Program Manager/ Director, the State Trauma Coordinator, NTDB and the pediatric TQIP database in a timely manner.
  • Interacts and collaborates with Nemours Information Technology (IT) department to assure accurate data collection and transmission.
  • Assists with the ongoing trauma performance improvement program by identifying potential quality issues regarding trauma care and patient outcomes.
  • Creates reports utilizing the Digital Innovations (DI) trauma registry.
  • Participates in state and national mandatory meetings.
  • Works closely with the trauma team to identify areas of potential research, especially in the field of injury prevention.
  • Participates in all mandatory professional development as required by the American College of Surgeons.

Position Requirements

  • High school Diploma required
  • Medical terminology Hospital experience required
  • Medical Coding a plus
  • CAISS-Certified Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's Abbreviated Injury Severity Score (within 2 years); CSTR-Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (within 3 years)
