Job Duties


Are you driven by learning new things? Do you have a passion for ensuring things are done properly? VDOT has an exciting opportunity for you on the Richmond District Construction Team We are seeking to fill a Construction Inspector Apprentice position within our Construction Northern Region (Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Charles city and the City of Richmond).


Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's license
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of highway construction and contracting
  • Knowledge in mathematics such as geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Ability to obtain required certifications within 24 months of hire
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in field conditions such as using testing equipment, lifting, climbing, stooping, working at heights, in confined spaces and making visual observations
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with various stakeholders, e.g. contractors, general public, and internal/external government agencies
  • Proper Safety shoes

Additional Considerations

  • Commercial Driver's license
  • A combination of training, experience or education in Construction, Engineering technology, project management, Materials handling, or related field desired

Special Instructions


Position is designated as essential to emergency operations and will be required to work outside normal work hours to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Fingerprint based background check, references, work history and DMV records will be verified prior to employment. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. H1B VISA Sponsorship is not available.
