Davis Medical Center, located in Petersburg, Virginia, is a 94-bed medical facility providing acute medical diagnoses, skilled care, intermediate care, and long-term care to individuals receiving services in DBHDS facilities and within the community that have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Admissions to HWDMC are generally either permanent placement or special hospitalization. Patients typically come to HWDMC as a special hospitalization for step-down to stabilize, post-surgery rehabilitation, or long-term care.

The Medical Equipment Specialist will be responsible for inventory, tracking, and storage of facility healthcare equipment.

This position works hand in hand with medical professionals to ensure medical equipment is maintained in working order, documented and handles the scheduling of maintenance for the equipment.


Job Duties:


Responsible for monitoring and coordinating replacement of broken equipment, inventory control in order to ensure proper supplies are on hand at all times, equipment tracking and distribution, and storage.

Maintains daily tracking record of patients using medical equipment i.e. hospital beds, special mattresses, rails, contour beds, rental special equipment, wound vac machines, etc.
Responsible for distribution of new equipment ordered and the collection and discarding of old or replaced equipment with proper authorization
Maintains stored equipment and supplies in ready-to-use and clean condition


Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry and transport a variety of medical equipment.
  • Ability to conduct inventory reviews, submit orders, and ensure proper equipment processes are completed timely
  • Possess a combination of knowledge and/or experience in aseptic techniques
  • Experience with Microsoft Applications (Word and Excel) are also required.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience working with medical equipment, not limited to tracking and ordering is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity in working within a special population milieu
  • Experience monitoring and ordering of stock, supplies and equipment coupled with working experience in central medical supply.
