Job Description Summary


The Inpatient Scheduler is responsible for scheduling therapy and related activities for inpatients utilizing guidelines and direction from inpatient managers.

The Scheduler also arranges and schedules shared services with the ordered departments at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and coordinate and schedules dialysis schedules.

Job Description:


The Inpatient Scheduler will:

  • Prepare therapist work schedules, working with Managers to ensure staffing levels meet the volume of patient admissions and seeking coverage from inhouse float and Flex staff when necessary.
  • Coordinate inpatient admission evaluations.
  • Schedule patient therapy sessions, ensuring sessions run at scheduled times according to floor specifications and modifying as necessary based on requests from clinicians.
  • Reschedule patient sessions upon cancellations and other interruptions.
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the Associate Director, Flex, Interpreter Services, and Inpatient Scheduling

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required- High School diploma.

Associates Degree or Certificate in a Medical Administration Program or comparable program preferred.- Minimum 1 year of experience in a health care field with knowledge of hospital systems. Proficient keyboarding skills.

Strong understanding of data entry and ability to learn hospital information systems.- Strong customer service skills/experience.

Ability to interact with respect to all customers, whether internal or external.- Effective verbal and written communication skills that convey a caring and competent professional attitude.- Strong organizational skills necessary to efficiently prioritize and complete a variety of tasks.- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment to maximize quality and efficiency of operations.- Ability to set priorities; flexibility to meet changing patient and system needs.- Ability to handle difficult individuals or situations in a professional and compassionate manner.

Working Conditions

Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
