POSITION TITLE:
Peer Support Specialist


Position Purpose:

Qualified individuals who have successfully recovered from a behavioral health condition (mental health, substance use, or co-occurring) that works collaboratively with other clinical staff to provide peer support services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse problems that are in crisis.

As part of our team, you assist individuals throughout the recovery process, helping them gain skills, access resources, and regain the confidence to succeed in society.

The Peer Support Specialist model recovery, advocate on client behalf, conduct groups & individual sessions, interact with families, and link consumer to community resources.


Reporting Relationship:
Reports to Program Director, Assistant Program Director, and Clinical Supervisor.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Primarily responsible to coordinate daily programming schedule.
  • Assist program participants with basic life skills, such as bill paying and how to keep appointments, and provide encouragement and guidance for engaging with activities to engender feelings of support and community.
  • Mentors clients, assists with entitlements, lead groups and oneonone sessions.
  • Conduct consumer intakes and discharges.
  • Assist in treatment planning and treatment case management needs.
  • Assist program participants in the development of skills, confidence, and relationships as they resume independent living
  • Facilitate groups in an open and welcoming environment
  • Provide direct peer counseling based on your own lived experiences
  • Help participants understand and employ recovery strategies
  • Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision, and goals of Immanuel House; and
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.


  • Weekly quality assurance

  • Transport participants with company vehicles.
  • Able to be insured by company insurance
  • Writing group notes
  • Writing individual notes
  • Maintaining vehicle log
  • Maintaining daily facility log
  • Observes medication selfadministration pass.
  • Documenting medication selfadministration pass.
  • Conducts medication reconciliation.
  • Always maintains Visual Contact with Participants.
  • Peer Support Specialists (PSS) are individuals with lived experience in mental health and/or recovery. They provide support, advocacy, encouragement, affirmation, acceptance, resources, and hope to consumers. They share their personal experiences of navigating the public mental health and/or recovery systems of care, engaging in treatment and the recovery process. The support they provide helps break down barriers and empower people to find and follow their own recovery paths.

JOB RELATED QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:


  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Minimum of one year facilitation experience.
  • Must be culturally/linguistically sensitive to populations served.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Adherence to the highest standard of ethical conduct, especially to standards governing confidentiality.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Must have the ability to pass a criminal background investigation.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain CDCR clearance
  • Moderate computer proficiency Education and Work Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree or higher in social services (preferred).
  • Peer Support Specialist certification.
  • Experience working in the behavioral health field

Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily performed in residential or outpatient facility.
  • Occasional lifting of more than 30 pounds; and
  • Sitting, standing, walking, reaching are performed in the normal course of the position
  • Must be able to navigate stairs many times a day.
  • Must be able to do extensive charting and documentation LICENSES, CERTIFICATES & CLEARANCE:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Peer Support Specialist certification or obtained within 2 years of hire if have lived experience and in recovery and meets all other qualifications.
  • Clearance on Background/DOJ Live scan result per contract requirements.
  • Negative reading from pre-employment TB and Drug Tests.
  • Valid California driver's license and current auto insurance per contract requirements.
  • Food Handlers Card 7. CPR/First Aid Certification

Job Types:
Full-time, Part-time

$ $18.00 per hour
