Currently, HII is seeking a skilled Designer 2 to join our team, responsible for creating and developing designs for various projects in collaboration with project managers, engineers, and other designers.


What You Will Do

  • Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Utilizes computeraided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA.
  • Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal.
  • Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
  • Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other designers to ensure that designs meet project requirements.
  • Prepare and present design concepts and ideas to project teams and clients.
  • Stay uptodate with industry trends and best practices in design.

What You Must Have

  • AA or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 1 year related experience. HS + 3 years related experience may be substituted for AA degree.
**Bonus Points For Having

  • Openness to travel as required
  • Familiarity with IDEA CAD Standards
  • Prior experience working with NNS, NNSY, Ingalls, and PSNS Shipyards

Physical Requirements
Ability to work in shipboard environment. Able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job.

Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, shipboard, shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.

Able to perform other duties as required.

May involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels, riding ships at sea for extended periods.

May require the ability to work while wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
